Assembly Bill 1204: Fair and Transparent Care
California Assembly Bill 1204 requires the Department of Health Care Access and Information (HCAI) to create and manage the Hospital Equity Measures Reporting Program. The goal is to better understand and improve how hospitals care for people from all backgrounds.
Under this law, certain hospitals must send HCAI a yearly report which includes:
- A summary of key hospital performance and patient outcomes
- Data broken down by things like age, sex, race/ethnicity, insurance type, language, disability status, sexual orientation, and gender identity
- The top 10 disparities (or differences in care)
- Plans to fix those disparities
HCAI will post these reports and plans on its website so the public can easily access them; hospitals must also post their own reports on their websites.
This helps patients, families, and communities see how hospitals are working to provide more fair and equitable care for everyone.
Reporting period: January 1 to December 31, 2024
