Sonoma Valley Hospital operates four specialty clinics in the City of Sonoma to help Sonoma Valley residents find the care they need close to home. Some physician specialists may require a referral from a primary care physician to schedule an appointment. Gastroenterology focuses on caring for your digestive system—from the esophagus and stomach to the intestines, liver, and pancreas. The goal is to provide clear answers, effective treatments, and peace of mind so you can feel comfortable, healthy, and confident in your daily life.

Dr. Okolo is a physician leader, academic gastroenterologist, and health system executive known for clinical excellence, education, and organizational transformation.

He has held leadership roles at leading institutions, including serving as Chief of Endoscopy at Johns Hopkins Hospital, where he introduced patient care innovations. He later advanced to Rochester Regional Health in New York and also served as Professor of Medicine and Chief of Gastroenterology at the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine before becoming Chief Medical Officer at Sonoma Valley Hospital.

His expertise has earned global recognition from gastroenterology societies across multiple countries, along with consistent national honors in the United States for over two decades.

Dr. Okolo’s interests include healthcare leadership, physician engagement, improving patient access, and redesigning systems for efficiency and equity, while remaining active in therapeutic endoscopy, quality improvement, and education.

Authorizations Coordinator and Billing

Common services include evaluating and managing:
  • GERD
  • Liver conditions such as non-alcoholic fatty liver disease
  • Symptoms without an obvious cause, including weight loss, abdominal pain, bloating, or changes in bowel habits
Specialists also assess:
  • Swallowing difficulties
  • Gastrointestinal bleeding
  • Anemia
  • Persistent reflux or pain
These evaluations help identify and treat the root cause of symptoms.

Payments

All major credit cards are accepted. Payment installments are offered if needed.
 
Please bring your up-to-date insurance information with you and be prepared to submit your co-payment. This is greatly appreciated.
 

Insurance

Sonoma Valley Specialty Clinic is contracted with nearly all major insurance. Please call us at 707.938.7652 for the most up-to-date information on our accepted private health insurance plans or for information on a Self-Pay Fee Schedule.
 
The practice requires that the patient confirm covered benefits with their health plan PRIOR to scheduling an appointment for a service to be provided at Sonoma Valley Hospital.
 

​Additional Fees

Medical records can be sent to providers outside of your care team for a nominal fee, based on number of documents requested.
 
No-Show Fees: In order to prevent disruptive cancellations, we request ample notice if you need to reschedule an office visit or an operation/procedure. Details are available in our Policies.
