Sonoma Valley Hospital maintains the only Emergency Department in Sonoma Valley, serving as a critical safety net for the entire region. We care for approximately 12,000 emergency patients each year, providing around-the-clock access to emergency medical services close to home.

Emergency care is provided by board-certified emergency physicians from Napa Valley Emergency Medical Group (NVEMG), an independent physician partnership that has served patients in the North Bay since 1974. NVEMG physicians have trained in some of the nation’s leading emergency medicine residency programs and are experts in the evaluation, stabilization, and treatment of critically ill and injured patients. As members of the American College of Emergency Physicians, they remain committed to ongoing education and delivering high-quality, compassionate care to every patient.

Sonoma Valley Hospital is recognized for its specialized emergency care programs, including its Geriatric Emergency Department Accreditation (GEDA), demonstrating a commitment to meeting the unique needs of older adults. The hospital has also earned multiple American Heart Association Get With The Guidelines® Stroke Achievement Awards, including Get With The Guidelines®-Rural Stroke Gold and Get With The Guidelines®-Stroke Gold Plus with Target: Stroke Honor Roll Elite and Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll, recognizing our dedication to delivering evidence-based stroke care and improving patient outcomes.

The Marcia and Gary Nelson Family Emergency Care Center is designed to deliver timely, compassionate, and high-quality emergency care in a private and comfortable environment. Our Emergency Department consistently ranks in the top quartile nationally for patient satisfaction, reflecting our commitment to an exceptional patient experience.
