November 20, 2012 Sonoma Valley Hospital (SVH) announced it will offer all patients without insurance a 60% discount on the total charges incurred for a visit, including inpatient, outpatient, diagnostic testing, and other services. The hospital will apply an additional 10% discount for patients who pay in full within 21 days from the first statement bill date.

“As a community hospital we feel a responsibility to do all we can to help patients access the care they need, regardless of insurance status,” said Kelly Mather, President and CEO of Sonoma Valley Hospital. “We don’t want people to defer necessary care due to issues of affordability.”

Ms. Mather pointed out that the hospital also offers interest-free payment plans for all patients. Balances less than $500 may be paid over a period of six or fewer months; if the balance exceeds $500, payments may be spread over 12 months.

“For patients who are unable to qualify for government funded insurance, Sonoma Valley Hospital also offers a Charity Care Program based on the combined family income and dependents as verified on tax returns,” said Ms. Mather. “When approved, patients may receive even deeper discounts.”

“It’s admirable that Sonoma Valley Hospital is reaching out to make care more affordable for families that may have lost a job—and the insurance that came with it—or who simply can’t keep up with rising health care costs,” said Dr. Rolf Olness. “I know this will make a positive difference for many in this community.”
